WOCArchive Community Engagement Intern

The Community Engagement Intern will support all programs and projects at WOCArchive in the conceptualization, creation, and facilitation of our social media accounts and annual WOCArchive Art Exhibition & Workshop.

The Women of Color Archive (WOCArchive) is an intergenerational visual & aural based project that seeks to preserve the stories of our matriarchs of color in New York City and beyond.

This position will play an exciting role in our new community-based initiatives, including programming developed for the expansion of our collage + oral based workshops, as well as the production of notable women of color interviews, digital exhibition walkthroughs, cataloging archival interviews, creating social media content and more. 

Ideal candidates will have experience creating social media content and facilitating workshops.

Internship Terms

Term dates: June 5th  to August 12, 2023

Unpaid internship with flexible 20 hour work week*

*hours will vary on scheduled workshop across the five boroughs

Role and Responsibilities

The person in this role will be rotating through programming, our communications, and our executive/development coordinator to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the ways these positions work individually and collectively to support the WOCArchive. In the last half of the term, the intern will self direct and manage an independent project with support and collaboration of team members.

The role will also support the ongoing development of WOCArchive programs in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to:

  • General network administration and communications 

  • Pitch ideas for fall programming and support the creation and facilitation of the annual art exhibition and workshop

  • Research social media trends and connect with community based organizations on: oral histories, art, and femme/women stories

  • Coordinate and facilitate at least one collage + oral history workshop

  • Ideate and execute social media strategy

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is a visionary self-starter, who loves to work from theory to praxis. Our best interns have proposed and designed their own bold initiatives in response to our mission and core values. 

Some qualifications include:

Must be a currently enrolled college student or a high school student graduating in the Spring of 2023

  • Experience ideating, creating, and producing social media content

  • Ability to organize many moving parts and maintain a legible and transferable note-keeping and status update system

  • A fun and willing attitude to get into both the ideas and gears of the WOCArchive mission and vision 

  • Patience and grace when working with our talented and diverse community members
